Celery roots for weight loss
Celery roots and stalks do contain a lot of useful substances – potassium, phosphorus, calcium, zinc, sodium, iron, magnesium, vitamins A, C, E, K and group B. Thanks to such a rich palette of micronutrients, celery helps to normalize the water-salt balance and reduce swelling, improve the functioning of blood vessels. The fiber contained in celery in large quantities stimulates the intestines.
What about the benefits of celery for weight loss? It is believed that celery, having a mild laxative effect, like most vegetables, helps to lose weight. This is a controversial issue. A plate of salad with fresh celery will really help your intestines work more vigorously. Having eaten such a dish for dinner, in the morning you will probably successfully "ease your conscience", after which you will find minus 200-500 g on the scales. But everyone understands that it is not fat that has left your body. Weight loss occurs only with a constantly maintained calorie deficit. Although if the scales do not please you with numbers due to chronic constipation (hello, fans of rice and low-fat protein), celery can add positivity.
You can eat kilograms of celery – in such quantities any vegetable will irritate the intestines and cause diarrhea. The nutrients from the gastrointestinal tract will not have time to be absorbed and provide you with calories, which means that in the long term you can count on losing weight. But along with the excess weight, you will also lose health, therefore… just forget everything you read in this paragraph. And only a masochist would be able to cram a potentially dangerous amount of celery into himself.
There is also an opinion that celery has so-called negative calorie content - supposedly, it requires more energy to digest than it gives to the body. Utopians claim that because of this feature, celery can be eaten in unlimited quantities, and the fat will melt away on its own. But if you are seriously interested in nutrition, then you already know that negative calorie content is a myth. Yes, due to the large amount of water and indigestible coarse fiber, the energy value of celery is negligible, thanks to which it can really be eaten in large quantities (if you can, of course). But it definitely does not burn fat.
Nevertheless, due to its low calorie content, celery is still useful for weight loss. For example, you can make an excellent side dish for meat from it - it will give you almost no calories, but it will add volume to the portion, making it more satisfying. And many people like the spicy taste of this vegetable, not to mention its beneficial properties.
